2021-2022 Annual Report

September 1, 2021 – August 31, 2022

Message from the Minister of Education

On behalf of Alberta’s government, I would like to congratulate the Alberta School Boards Association on another successful year. Elected school boards are the very backbone of the public, separate and francophone education systems, and I thank all trustees for their dedication and hard work.

The theme of this annual report is about building on unity. Due in no small part to your leadership during the pandemic, we are learned the value of working together, supporting each other, and remaining united as we move forward into the future.

Helping students overcome pandemic-related challenges and reach their full potential has been a priority for Alberta’s government, and I am pleased to note that we are allocating an additional $110 million over the next three school years to help students overcome learning loss; increase access to specialized assessments; and improve the delivery of mental health services. This timely investment goes above and beyond standard annual funding to ensure our learners have access to the diverse supports they need to succeed in the classroom.

Whether it is supporting student wellness or addressing increasing costs, we will continue to help equip school authorities with the funding and flexibility needed to meet the unique needs of their jurisdictions.

Together, we will ensure Alberta students receive a world-class, high-quality education that enriches their lives and prepares them for success beyond school.

Congratulations to all trustees on a remarkable year. Our continued collaboration assures we remain united as we move into the future.

MINISTER OF EDUCATION SEPTEMBER 2022

Our overall support for Kindergarten to Grade 12 education continues to grow to record levels, with our current $8.4 billion budget which includes an increase of more than $700 million over three years. This funding means school authorities are well-positioned to move forward.
